The Eleventh Dynasty begins in the First Intermediate Period and ends in the Middle Kingdom. Conflict between the Theban and Herakleopolitan factions continues until Intef II takes Abydos. Intef III maintains the advances of his predecessor and lays claim to the thrones of Upper and Lower Egypt, instituting the Middle Kingdom Period.
